Our Story

Steven was born in West Smithfield in the city of London, close to St. Paul’s Cathedral, and grew up as the only boy alongside his three sisters. His parents also born in London but moved to Hertfordshire to raise their four children.

Steven was introduced to the carpet business from an early age with frequent visits to Pimlico Road, where his father ran a luxury carpet company in the affluent area of London’s Chelsea. While lending a hand in the showroom by sorting through the fabulous Brussel’s weave carpet samples for display or cutting samples ready to be sent out to clients, the passion for luxurious carpets seed was planted in Steven’s young mind.

After finishing school, he moved to Chelsea and worked for one of the finest furniture companies in the world, which also happened to be based in Pimlico Road, London. It would seem Steven’s life was destined to be surrounded by luxury interiors, now with Royal connections his eyes were opened to the high level of service and quality the most discerning customers were accustomed to.

Always a creative at heart with a passion for abstract paintings, while working in Pimlico, Steven also worked on art commissions for private clients. Though this quickly became a great source of income and creative expression for the 20 year old Steven, carpets and rugs seem to run deep in his blood and so he turned his attention to designing his own ranges and building his own business allowing him space to combine his love for creativity and innovation with the old art of fine carpet craft.

Twenty years on, Steven now runs his own company in the Chelsea’s design quarter with the help of his team. With prestigious projects spanning across luxury residential and high end hospitality, the team maintain the original Steven Foster’s brand ethos of creativity, unyielding product quality and the highest level of professional service.
